1970s Wittler Original – SOLD

20 Sep

A handmade 1970s Wittler road touring/racing bicycle from Germany. Very special.

22″ frame with Weinmann brakes and 10 speed Italian Gian Robert Campione gears. Continental tan wall tyres on 700c wheels. A really good spec.

Gian Robert used one basic design throughout their history, a derivative of Campagnolo’s design, with one sprung pivot, but with the adjustment screws integrated more tidily into the knuckles.

Wittler were a very small German company prevalent in the 1960s and 1970s, only a handful of these bicycles remain and are therefore very rare.

This bicycle appears to have been imported from the town of Wassenberg , a town in the district Heinsberg, in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. There is a tell-tale sticker on the rear mudguard showing the address of the original shop.

The frame is a beautiful red/burgundy colour and looks and feels like it has only been ridden a couple of times. There is fantastic hand painted white detailing around the lugged steel frame and lots of shiny chrome! The original lighting system, powered by a dynamo at the front wheel is included; along with a rear pannier and mud guards to both wheels.

Good second hand condition – spots of surface rust here and there. Like most vintage bikes it’s not perfect!
